Feedback from the Field

"I needed a CAT IV rated multimeter for substation work. The information on this site was clear enough that I could evaluate the options without wading through manufacturer marketing. Made a confident selection."

Johan P.
Electrical Contractor, Rotterdam

"The thermal imaging article here was one of the more technically accurate summaries I've come across. It actually addressed emissivity and field-of-view constraints, which most overviews skip entirely."

Miriam H.
Maintenance Engineer, Eindhoven

"As a facilities manager, I'm not always deep in the technical weeds. The product finder here helped me communicate the right requirements to our procurement team. That saved time."

Carlos M.
Facility Manager, Amsterdam

Today
Continuing to Serve Professionals

Operating from Eindhoven, serving electrical, industrial, and facility management professionals with product information, technical guidance, and equipment enquiry support.

"In precision measurement, the margin for error is not a target — it is an upper boundary that professional-grade equipment works to stay well within."

Measurement Principle

"The difference between a CAT II and a CAT III rating is not just a number — it reflects the transient energy levels the instrument has been designed to safely handle."

Safety Fundamentals

"Thermal imaging reveals what contact measurement cannot: the spatial distribution of heat across a surface, making it an indispensable tool for modern electrical inspection programmes."

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our equipment categories, ordering process, and technical considerations.

Ask a Question

IEC 61010 measurement category ratings define the overvoltage transient protection level of a meter. CAT II covers single-phase receptacle loads and portable equipment. CAT III covers fixed equipment in buildings, distribution panels, and bus bars. CAT IV covers the point of connection to the utility supply — including outdoor conductors and service entrance. Higher categories indicate protection against more severe transient overvoltages.

Standard average-responding meters give accurate readings only on pure sinusoidal waveforms. In industrial environments with variable-frequency drives, switched-mode power supplies, and non-linear loads, the waveform is often distorted. True RMS meters measure the actual heating effect of the current or voltage, giving correct readings regardless of waveform shape. For professional electrical work, True RMS measurement is a practical necessity.

Key specifications to consider include detector resolution (pixel count), thermal sensitivity (NETD), and temperature range. For electrical inspection, a sensitivity of 50 mK or better allows subtle hot-spot detection. Ensure the lens field-of-view and spatial resolution (IFOV) are appropriate for the target size and working distance. Features such as emissivity adjustment and isotherm tools aid interpretation.
